Mindfulness is a meditation
technique originated by Zen Buddhists. Elements of the technique can be
found in most of the world's major religions, but it is not a strictly
religious practice. Mindfulness has been studied by mental health
professionals in recent years as a technique for reducing stress and
teaching relaxation. There are many benefits. For an overview, visit: www.mindfulness.com.
Mindfulness,
in essence, simply consists of emptying your mind of all thoughts while
focusing only on your breathing. If a thought comes into your mind while
meditating, simply note it and let it go, without judging it. Do not think
of yourself as 'failing' if at first you are unable to keep thoughts from
coming. With practice, you will be able to do it more easily. The point is
to simply pay attention to the moment, without thoughts or judgments.
