Artist Organization: Moving Toward Nonprofit Status
We are in the process of incorporating the Culture Artist
into a nonprofit. We have not yet finished crafting the mission
statement, but here are a few of the goals of the Culture Artist
Organization:
- The
formation of the Culture Artist Sustainable Community; a
community designed on the principles of Deep Ecology to
maximize sustainability
- The
development of educational programs to raise environmental
awareness and to promote sustainability practices throughout
the world
- Development
of an Educational Center containing hands-on educational
exhibits that will allow people to see and learn about
sustainability firsthand (this Educational Center will be
incorporated into the Culture Artist Community)
- To
gather data on sustainable living towards the ultimate goal of
reducing human impact on the environment to ‘zero impact’
- To
gather data on mental and emotional wellbeing in sustainable
communities vs. typical urban and rural environments
If you have any suggestions as we enter into the planning
phase of incorporation, please feel free to contact me at chuck@cultureartist.org!

Progress
Notes on the Culture Artist Sustainable Community
Upstate Forever at: http://www.upstateforever.org is a South
Carolina nonprofit dedicated to promoting sustainable communities.
The Culture Artist Organization has recently opened a dialogue
with the Spartanburg Chapter of Upstate Forever, seeking their
input as we progress towards the Culture Artist Sustainable
Community.
At the initial meeting, I discussed plans
with Executive Director of the Spartanburg Upstate Forever office,
Angie Viney. Angie feels that the Culture Artist Community will be
a positive contribution to the upstate South Carolina region and
she is willing to provide any information we may need as work
progresses.
The first building to be constructed at the community will be
Tomorrow’s Light Center (TLC), a cultural center that will
function as an educational facility and a ‘town hall’ for the
future community. TLC will hold seminars and workshops at least
twice a month on topics of sustainability and the environment. It
will also function as a hands-on museum of sustainability that
will allow the public to experience green living for themselves.
The finished design layout for TLC is available on the website at:
http://www.cultureartist.org/Community/TLC.htm.
The building will be approximately 650 square feet, and will
be wind and solar powered.
There are several grants that may be available once the
center is established. When the articles of incorporation for the
Culture Artist Organization are completed later this year, we will
be able to apply for these grants.
If you would be interested in conducting a workshop at TLC
once it is completed, please email Chuck at chuck@cultureartist.org
with your name, contact information, and title of your workshop.

News
Item of the Month
We need a name for the Culture Artist Community! Most of the
Design Committee feels that ‘Culture Artist Sustainable
Community’ is a bit too unwieldy a name. One of the names that
has been bandied about is ‘Forest Moon Village.’ This seems to
be gaining momentum as a name for our future sustainable
community.
Do you like ‘Forest Moon Village’ as a name? If so, then
cast your vote! If not, suggest another name. I’ll compile all
the suggestions in the October 2007 newsletter and we’ll hold a
vote in November.
Send your suggestion for a community name to: info@cultureartist.org.
Be sure to put “Community Name” in the subject line!
We’re
Looking for Land!
The Culture Artist Organization is currently seeking land for
the purpose of constructing a future educational center and
sustainable community. We are looking for 10 to 100 acres of land
somewhere in upstate South Carolina or western North Carolina. Of
course, we would prefer that the land be donated in trust, but we
would also be interested in owner-financed parcels that meet the
above qualifications.
If you are interested in donating or selling a parcel, please
contact: info@cultureartist.org.
DISCLAIMER: You are receiving this email because you
expressed an interest in the Culture Artist Newsletter, a monthly
publication of www.cultureartist.org. If you did not subscribe to
this newsletter or no longer wish to receive it, send a blank
email to info@cultureartist.org with the word ‘UNSUBSCRIBE’ in
the subject line.
