Progress
Notes on Forest Moon Ecovillage
The Board of Directors has come up with a plan that may work
for purchasing land for Forest Moon Ecovillage. Here’s how it
works:
The
Board has looked at several parcels in the Upstate South Carolina
area. The going rate for land seems to be about $15,000-$20,000
per acre. The plan the Board is considering would be to have
people who are interested in Forest Moon Ecovillage put up $5000
each to buy the land. An acre can be divided into four parcels of
approximately 100 x 100 feet. So each $5000 contributor would
receive in exchange a lot about 100 x 100 feet. This lot would be
subject to building covenants (i.e., the owner would have to build
using natural materials, etc.) but would otherwise be owned by the
person who put up the money.
In order to make this work, we’d need at least ten people
who would be able to commit to putting up $5000 each for a lot
before January 1, 2009. This plan is in preliminary stages now.
There are still a lot of bugs to be worked out, such as who gets
to decide how the lots are distributed (who gets which lot?), and
how to legally assign titles, survey land, zoning, covenants, etc.
This is just an initial presentation of the idea to see who might
be interested. If this sounds like something you’d like to be a
part of, please email me at chuck@cultureartist.org and let me
know. The Board has decided that we need to hear from at least ten
people in order to move forward with this plan.
On a related note, there’s a parcel in Edgefield County in
South Carolina that is 22.1 acres, just about the right size. The
difference is that this parcel is only about $4000 an acre: Cross
Creek, Atlantic Coast Properties.

Artist Community: Earth-Centered Spirituality
As the newsletter subscription list expands, we’re hearing
from a lot of people who practice an Earth-centered spirituality.
What is an Earth-centered spirituality? It is any spiritual or
religious path that has reverence for nature as a part of its
practice. This can include anything from Native American
spirituality to Pagan religions to the Green Movement that is
accelerating in many Christian Churches across America and the
world. Since spirituality is so important to so many people who
have expressed an interest in Forest Moon Ecovillage, I thought it
might be a good idea to get some feedback from you subscribers
about it.
How important is spirituality to you? Do you practice any
form of spirituality? If so, what? How do you feel about diversity
in spiritual practice? Do you think it’s possible to have a
diverse group of spiritual practices living together in harmony?
In Forest Moon Ecovillage, what sort of sacred spaces should there
be? Should there be churches, chapels, sacred groves, meditation
gardens, or all of the above? Is spirituality an integral part of
life in such a community? Let me know what you think by emailing
me with your comments at chuck@cultureartist.org!
Comments will be published in the next edition of the newsletter
in April.
Website
of the Month for March 2008
Having just finished a seven-part series on global warming, I
am well aware of how many people still don’t understand the
science behind climate change. The Environmental Defense Fund has
compiled this list of common global warming myths and their
answers. This is an excellent resource for debunking the
dissenters in your neighborhood: Global Warming Myths: http://www.edf.org/page.cfm?tagID=16257&source=ggad&gclid=CMbK-uS77JECFQj4gAodp233qA

We’re
Looking for Land!
The Culture Artist Organization is currently seeking land for
the purpose of constructing a future educational center and
sustainable community. We are looking for 10 to 100 acres of land
somewhere in upstate South Carolina or western North Carolina. Of
course, we would prefer that the land be donated in trust, but we
would also be interested in owner-financed parcels that meet the
above qualifications.
If you are interested in donating or selling a parcel, please
contact: info@cultureartist.org.
